SUCCESS STORY: MAJOR UNIVERSITY UPGRADES COOLING TOWER FANS TO SILENTSYNC AND ACHIEVES ANNUAL ENERGY SAVINGS OF $1,001 PER DRIVE

Situation – A major university was looking to reduce maintenance costs and Go Green by reducing its energy costs on the heating / cooling tower fans in one of its campus buildings. The existing drive on the fan – a 6/B158 v-belt drive – is a horizontal application that required constant tensioning.

Solution – Utilizing Continental ContiTech’s MaximizerPro™ drive selection analysis software, Applied® analyzed the fan’s existing drive to determine the best option, which was Continental ContiTech’s B-3920 SilentSync drive. Conti® SilentSync features an offset helical tooth design and offers great self-tracking properties for horizontal drive applications.

Results – The university achieved an annual savings of $1,001 per drive. After realizing the savings from replacement of the first two drives, the university is taking action to further increase energy savings and reduce the maintenance load across the campus. To date, 16 of 40 selected campus buildings have been changed out with the Conti® SilentSync drive.
